How we make our feed

Quality maize and soya, carefully formulated feed, dependable equipment and results from our own broilers. We manage each step at Chisamba.

1. Start with quality maize and soya

The quality of our feed starts with the maize and soya we source. Every delivery is weighed, sampled and graded before acceptance. Grain must meet our intake requirements before it enters the plant.

Weigh and record

  • Every load crosses a calibrated weighbridge with the seller present
  • CCTV coverage across intake for full transparency
  • Weight ticket and grading record issued on the spot

Sample and test

  • Probe sampling from multiple points in every truck
  • Calibrated moisture meters on each sample
  • Visual and screen grading for foreign matter and damage

Check against our standards

  • Maize: moisture ≤ 13.5%, food-grade cleanliness
  • Soya: moisture ≤ 13%; heat-damaged or mouldy grain rejected
  • Only material that meets the standard is offloaded

Accept and document

  • Record the grading results against the intake standards
  • Only grain that meets the requirements is offloaded
  • Provide the supplier with weight and grading records

2. Formulate for each stage of growth

Good ingredients need the right formulation. Our feed team combines maize and soya ingredients with other nutrients to meet the needs of broilers as they grow.

We formulate and manufacture our feed in-house, with separate feeds for pre-starter, starter, grower and finisher stages. Ingredient quality, the mix and consistency between batches all matter.

3. Use equipment built to last

Our milling and processing equipment has been selected for dependable industrial use. Proven equipment, maintained and operated properly, helps us produce consistent feed.

Our maize, soya and feed operations are on the same site. That gives the team oversight of the ingredients from processing through mixing and bagging.

4. Use the feed on our own broilers

We raise our own broilers on the feed we manufacture. We track bird weights, feed use and survival through each cycle, so we see how the feed performs on the farm.

Biosecurity and flock care

Strong biosecurity protocols are central to our broiler operation. Protecting flock health goes hand in hand with quality feed and careful management of the sheds.
